At GIA Home Care Services, we believe that needing help with daily tasks should never mean giving up control of your own life. Our Personal Care Attendant (PCA) services are built around that idea: a trained attendant provides the hands-on physical support you need, while you stay in charge of how, when, and where that support happens. Here is an overview of what our Personal Care Attendants provide:
Activities of Daily Living
The heart of PCA support is hands-on help with the physical tasks that illness, injury, or disability can make difficult or unsafe to manage alone:
- Bathing, showering, and personal hygiene
- Dressing, grooming, and skin care
- Toileting and incontinence care
- Transfers, positioning, and mobility assistance
Instrumental Activities of Daily Living
Staying at home also means keeping a household running. Our attendants help with the practical tasks that make that possible:
- Meal preparation and assistance with eating
- Laundry, shopping, and light housekeeping
- Accompaniment to medical appointments and errands
Consumer-Directed Support
PCA care is directed by the person receiving it, or by a chosen surrogate. That means the plan follows your routine, not ours:
- You set the daily schedule and the order of tasks
- You decide how each task is carried out
- You remain the head of your own household
PCA Services and MassHealth
Personal Care Attendant services are funded through MassHealth. The PCA Program is consumer-directed, which means the person receiving the care is the employer: you hire, train, schedule, and supervise your own attendants, and MassHealth pays for the approved hours.
To qualify for the PCA Program, an individual must:
- Be eligible for MassHealth Standard or CommonHealth
- Have a permanent or chronic disability
- Require physical assistance with two or more Activities of Daily Living, such as bathing, dressing, eating, or mobility
- Be able to manage their own PCA services, or have a surrogate or administrative proxy to help
The number of approved hours is set through an evaluation of the assistance you need day to day. If you are not sure whether the PCA Program is the right fit for you or a family member, contact us and we will walk you through how it works.
Health and Safety Support
Our attendants provide steady, everyday support that helps prevent small problems from becoming emergencies:
- Medication reminders
- Assistance with prescribed exercise and therapy routines
- Watching for changes in condition and reporting concerns promptly
Specialized Support
We match attendants to the specific circumstances of each client, including:
- Adults living with physical disabilities
- Recovery after surgery, injury, or hospitalization
- Chronic and progressive conditions requiring long-term assistance
At GIA Home Care Services, we are committed to Personal Care Attendant support that keeps our clients safe, independent, and in control of their own care. Our team serves clients across Worcester, Boston, Springfield, and many other locations in Massachusetts.
